Dissolved ozone is used as a sanitizing agent throughout the pharmaceutical industry. At present, the industry has no bottled ozone standard by which dissolved ozone analyzers can be calibrated. In addition, there are potential pitfalls when measuring dissolved ozone in pure water. For instance, increasing the amount of injected gas can actually reduce the amount of dissolved ozone. Many pharmaceutical users are new to dissolved ozone sanitization. As a result, they are often surprised that it is not corollary to chemical or temperature sanitization methods. Dissolved ozone can easily outgas from the liquid and its solubility is inversely proportional with temperature. Despite these obstacles, the popularity of dissolved ozone with new and upgraded pharmaceutical water systems continues to increase. This article provides some guidance about reducing the risk of dissolved ozone measurement and provides information about the proper installation, calibration, and verification of sensors to ensure the best possible answers from dissolved ozone analysis.

The title means the product developed as an alternative system, which replaces the conventional fumigation sterilization system, where formaline gas is used. Alcohol, which is conventionally used as disinfectant, is expensive, and moreover, must be controlled, so that its concentration is about 70%. Ozone gas has such advantages: that its oxidation causes a strong sterilization effect, that its self-decomposition causes no residue, that it has no carcinogenicity, that it can be easily detected by smell, even when its concentration is very low, and that, at a short time after fumigation, the operation can be re-started. Ozone causes stelirization, when the condition of concentration and temperature is controlled. The developed system was integrated into one body with the air-conditioning and monitoring systems of clean-room, so that a high air-tightness was established. In this paper, the fumigation system, ozone generating unit, ozone filling/decomposition unit, the high-density operation, low-density operation, scattering of ozone’s concentration, sterilization effect, examination of materials used, etc., are explained.
